Introduction to Chikiti Mahavidyalaya

Chikiti Mahavidyalaya, located in the culturally rich and historically significant region of Chikiti in Ganjam District, Odisha, was established on 15th August 1980. The college was founded with the vision of providing higher education to the neglected and economically disadvantaged communities in this area, which was previously underserved in terms of educational opportunities. The founding of the college was the result of the combined efforts of Late Radhakanta Das, Sri Radhasyam Patnaik, and Sri Brundaban Sahu, along with the inspiration and support of Late Dibakar Patnaik, a patriot and freedom fighter.

The college began its operations in the premises of Sri Jagannath Kala Parisad, functioning under a managing committee with a dedicated staff. Despite the initial challenges, it soon gained affiliation from Berhampur University and started offering Intermediate Arts (I.A.) courses from the academic session 1981-82. Over the years, the institution expanded its academic offerings, including Science stream and degree programs, and has become a key educational center in the region.

Key Milestones in the Development of the College

• Affiliation and Expansion:

  • The college initially began with Arts courses and later, in 1986-87, introduced the Science stream at the +2 level, with support from the SEVANIDHI TRUST.
  • The institution obtained permanent affiliation for its +3 Science and Arts degree courses and introduced honors programs in subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Political Science, Economics, and Education.

• Accreditation:

  • In 2006-07, the college received a 'B' grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), recognizing its efforts in improving educational standards and institutional development.

• Introduction of Information Technology (IT):

  • In response to the demands of globalization, Computer education was prioritized. The IT course was introduced at the +2 level in 2007-08 as a self-financed program. Later, the college expanded its offerings with a BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications) course from the 2014-15 academic session.

• Grant-in-Aid Status:

  • The college became a grant-in-aid institution in 1988-89, which facilitated further development, including regular appointments for Principals and faculty. The college has since seen the leadership of several dedicated Principals, including Sri C. S. Mahapatra, Sri P. K. Mishra, Lion T. C. Padhy, and Dr. N. M. Padhy, who have contributed significantly to its growth and development.
