Goalpara College

Founded on August 8, 1955, Goalpara College is a premier institution located in the historic town of Goalpara, Assam. Established with the collective effort of local visionaries, the college aims to provide quality higher education to the youth of western Assam, particularly those residing on the south bank of the Brahmaputra River. Affiliated with Gauhati University and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the college has been a beacon of academic excellence for decades.

Undergraduate Courses

Goalpara College offers three-year degree programs in the following disciplines:

• Bachelor of Arts (BA): Honours and General in subjects like Assamese, English, Economics, Education, Geography, History, Mathematics, Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology, and Statistics.

• Bachelor of Science (BSc): Honours and General in Botany, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Zoology, and Environmental Science.

• Bachelor of Commerce (BCom): Honours and General courses.

Higher Secondary Courses

The college also offers two-year Higher Secondary courses in Science, Arts, and Commerce under the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council.

Distance Education

In collaboration with institutions like IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University), KKHSOU (Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University), and IDOL (Institute of Distance and Open Learning, Gauhati University), Goalpara College provides opportunities for distance and open education.

Campus & Facilities

• Location: Situated in central Goalpara Town, the college spans approximately 35.28 acres of lush green land.

• Hostels: Separate hostels for boys and girls, each with a capacity of 50 seats, are available within the college premises.

• Library: The college library is well-equipped with around 27,000 books, including textbooks, reference materials, and encyclopedias. It subscribes to 22 national/international journals and seven national and local dailies. The library operates on computer-based software (SOUL) and offers reprographic facilities.

• Innovation Council: The college has an Innovation Council that fosters creativity and entrepreneurship among students.

• Radio Station: In 2024, the college inaugurated its own radio station, Radio Goalpara 89.6 FM, enhancing communication and outreach.
