Hislop College

Hislop College, Nagpur was established in 1883. It was built in the Mahal area of Nagpur which is now known as Civil Lines Area. Even if Nagpur was the Capital of Central Provinces, till 1882 Nagpur had no college. This was the first college to be built in Nagpur. Until 1904, Hislop College was affiliated to University of Calcutta. Then itb was affiliated to Allahabad University. Till 1923, thdere were five colleges affiliated to University of Nagpur. Then later in late 1923, Hislop College also became a part of Nagpur  University.

The college is popular in Nagpur and its surrounding areas, and is one of the best places to study in Maharashtra. Recently UGC conformed Heritage Status to the Hislop College. Only three colleges from Maharashtra got this status and Hislop College is one of them.

The college was named after Scottish missionary Stephen Hislop , who was a noted evangelist, educationist and geologist.
