Set up in 1986, NIFT is the pioneering institute of fashion education in the country and has been in the vanguard of providing professional human resources to the textile and apparel industry. It was made a statutory institute in 2006 by an Act of the Indian Parliament with the President of India as a ‘Visitor’ and has full-fledged campuses all across the country. Over the years NIFT has also been working as a knowledge service provider to the Union and State governments in the area of design development and positioning of handlooms and handicrafts.

NIFT Chennai Courses & Fees
NIFT Chennai offers a Bachelor of Design (B.Des) and a Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.F.Tech) at the undergraduate level. At the postgraduate level, the institute offers Master of Fashion Management (M.F.M) and Master of Fashion Technology (M.F.Tech). NIFT Chennai Admission
- NIFT Chennai offers admission to all the UG and PG programs based on the NIFT Entrance Exam conducted by the institute itself. NIFT Entrance Exam comprises a General Ability Test (GAT) for all the UG and PG Programs along with an additional Creative Ability Test (CAT) for B.Des. Shortlisted candidates based on the entrance exam will have to then appear for a Situation Test for B.Des and a Personal Interview for all PG programs.
- Candidates who have qualified and obtained a Common Merit Rank (CMR) in the NIFT Entrance will be eligible for the NIFT Counselling. The allocation of seats for NIFT Chennai Admission will be done through the centralized NIFT Counselling conducted for all the NIFT campuses across India. The round-wise seat allotment result will be released on the official website of NIFT. Candidates who are allocated a seat at NIFT Chennai will have to accept the seat and pay the course fee for admission confirmation.

NIFT Chennai Scholarship:
NIFT Chennai offers scholarships to its students based on their merit as well as financial condition. A considerable sum from the NIFT Development Fund is used to offer scholarships to students. The institute's Means-cum-Merit Financial Assistance scheme offers subsidized tuition fees to eligible students. Students from the economically weaker sections of society are also offered scholarships based on their income level.
