I.K Gujral Punjab Technical University was established by an Act of State Legislature on 16th January 1997 and it is once known as Punjab Technical University, [PTU] Jalandhar. The University has facilities in a land area of 78.16 acres & it owns more than 10 campuses. The University started its journey with 09 Engineering & 05 Management colleges. 

IKGPTU is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education [AICTE] & University Grants Commission [UGC]. Being an education and research university, it has the order to set up centers of excellence in developing technologies for advancing training and research & development in these fields. Currently, the university has 121 AICTE and 65 UGC institutes affiliated with it. Punjab Technical University Admissions are done on the basis of qualifying examination score.

Here are some of the key highlights of the University:

IKGPTU is offering a no.of schemes for candidates like SC/ST welfare schemes, in which no fee is to be paid by the SC/ST candidates, and also is successfully executing the schemes of Punjab Government. The university provides a course on Human Values and Professional Ethics for all the engineering and management candidates, in collaboration with NRCVEE, IIT, Delhi, and IIIT, Hyderabad.

• The candidate can apply for admissions online on the official website of the University.
• Admission to the undergraduate and postgraduate Engineering Courses will be done via centralized counselling conducted by the University
• The admissions to MA, MBA  & M.Sc are done via entrance test, which is held at the university main campus
• The admissions for distance learning courses will begin for the session 2021-22.
