Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), formerly known as Arunachal University, is the oldest and a leading central university in Arunachal Pradesh, India. Established on February 4, 1984, and located in the scenic Rono Hills of Doimukh, approximately 25 km from Itanagar, RGU offers a serene and conducive environment for higher education.

In 2005, the university was renamed in honor of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, and in 2007, it was conferred the status of a Central University by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
