Vidyasagar University is a pioneer government educational institution which is located in south West Bengal. It has the accreditation of NAAC and the recognization of UGC and AIU. According to the surveys conducted by India today, it has been placed at 24th position overall among India's best Central Government Universities. Vidyasagar University is affiliated with 50 colleges and the university offers various subjects in different fields which covers both traditional subjects and modern subjects as well. The university offers courses under 27 departments in PG, 12 in Humanities, and 15 in Science. 

The admissions to UG courses are done based on VUMAT, 10+2 scores and merit. The admissions to PG courses are done based on entrance exams like CAT, MAT, and UGC-NET. VU has a fully functional Directorate of Distance Learning which was established in 1981 and offers PG courses in various streams such as fine arts, humanities, and applied sciences. The admissions for the same are done online. The campus of VU is spread across 182 acres and has state-of-the-art facilities to aid the overall development of the students.

Vidyasagar University Admissions 2024 for each of the courses is done on a purely merit bases. The candidates must visit the Vidyasagar University official website to fill in the application form. There will be a separate portal for each of the courses for admission. Vidyasagar University Distance Education

The Centre for Distance and Online Education, Vidyasagar University (formerly: Directorate of Distance Education) was established on 29th September 1981 by an Act called the Vidyasagar University Act 1981 (West Bengal Act XVIII of 1981) after the name of Pandit Iswar Chandra Bandyopadhyay known as Vidyasagar. UGC accorded financial recognition to the University under 12B on March 1, 1990. The total area of the University is 182.75 acres (Main Campus 103.74 acres and Residential Campus 35.04 acres).
