The Vinayaka Missions University was instituted in 1981 with the establishment of Thirumuruga Kirupananda Variyar Thavathiru Sundara Swamigal [TKVTSS] medical education and a charitable trust. The University is accredited by NAAC. In 2001 Vinayaka Missions was conferred as "Deemed to be University" by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
