The Indian Navy Entrance Test (INET) is a crucial gateway for candidates aspiring to join various branches of the Indian Navy as officers. The INET 2026 eligibility criteria largely follow the same guidelines as previous years, emphasizing age limits, educational qualifications, nationality, and marital status, with no separate or differing requirements for male and female candidates.

INET Exam Eligibilty 2026: Requirements

• Applicants must be Indian citizens and unmarried at the time of application.
• The age limit generally falls between 19 to 24 or 25 years, depending on the entry branch such as Executive, Technical, or Education.
• Candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree such as B.Tech or BE with a minimum of 60 percent aggregate marks in relevant disciplines including Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronics.
• A minimum of 60 percent marks is also required in Class 10th, Class 12th, and English as a subject.
• Physical eligibility includes a minimum height of 157 cm for male candidates and 152 cm for female candidates.
• Weight must be proportionate to height and age as per prescribed standards.
• Vision standards must meet the required norms.
• Physical criteria are applied uniformly, with no gender-based relaxations except for the specified height requirement.

INET Exam Eligibilty 2026: Age Criteria 

  • For most branches, the eligible age range is 19 to 24 years as on the course commencement date.

  • Certain technical branches allow candidates to be up to 25 years of age.

  • Male and female candidates follow the same age criteria across all branches.

  • There is no age relaxation for reserved categories in the INET 2026 examination.

  • Final-year students are permitted to apply on a provisional basis, subject to fulfilling all eligibility requirements by the date of joining.

INET Exam Eligibilty 2026: Qualifications

  • The Executive branch requires a bachelor’s degree in any discipline with the prescribed minimum marks.

  • The Technical branch mandates a BE or B.Tech degree in relevant engineering disciplines with at least 60 percent marks.

  • The Education branch requires a postgraduate degree in science or humanities subjects from a recognized institution.

  • All candidates must have secured a minimum of 60 percent marks in their school board examinations.

  • Proficiency in English through English medium education or an equivalent qualification is mandatory.

  • Academic requirements are the same for male and female candidates.

  • Degrees must be obtained from AICTE recognized institutions only.

INET Exam Eligibilty 2026: Gender-Specific Aspects

  • Eligibility criteria are the same for both males and females across all branches, including SSC and PSC entries.

  • Female candidates are exempt from application fees, unlike general category male candidates.

  • There are no separate quotas or relaxations for females in the core eligibility criteria.

  • The Indian Navy promotes inclusive recruitment, but physical fitness tests follow uniform, gender-neutral standards.

  • Candidates of both genders must be unmarried at the time of application and during the selection process.

Additional Mandatory Criteria

  • Only Indian citizens are eligible to apply; NRIs and foreign nationals are not permitted.

  • Minimum physical standards include absence of color blindness and BMI within prescribed limits for all candidates.

  • Male candidates must meet the required chest expansion standard of at least 5 cm.

  • Candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC, and EWS categories are eligible for application fee waivers.

  • No educational or age relaxations are provided to reserved categories unless specifically mentioned in the official notification.

  • Tattoos are allowed only in traditional body locations as per Indian Navy guidelines.
