Assam Medical College

Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) is the oldest medical institution in Northeast India. Founded as Berry White Medical School in 1900 by British surgeon Dr. John Berry White, the institution was established with a generous donation of ₹50,000 from Dr. White's personal savings. This initiative aimed to provide medical education and healthcare services in the region.

In 1947, the institution was upgraded to a full-fledged medical college and renamed Assam Medical College and Hospital. The college was formally inaugurated by Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi, the first Chief Minister of Assam, on November 3, 1947. This date is celebrated annually as Foundation Day.

Undergraduate:

• MBBS: 200 seats (15% All India Quota, 85% State Quota)​

Postgraduate:

• MD/MS: 179 seats across various specialties, including General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, Radiology, and more.

Super Speciality:

• DM Cardiology: 3 seats

• MCh Paediatric Surgery: 2 seats

• MCh Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery: 2 seats​

Diploma Courses:

• Diploma in Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Technology, Radiographic Technology, Cardiac Care Technology, Physiotherapy, ICU Technology, and more.

• Departments: 25+ outpatient departments, including specialties like neurology, cardiology, orthopaedics, and more.

Admissions

• Eligibility: NEET-UG qualified candidates

• Seat Distribution: 200 MBBS seats (15% AIQ, 85% State Quota)

• Admission Fees: ₹24,000 (including hostel); ₹1,000 additional for State Quota counselling

• Documents Required: NEET Admit Card, Rank Letter, 10th and 12th Mark Sheets, Caste/EWS Certificate (if applicable), PH Certificate (if applicable), and Annexure I to IX/Declaration of parents. ​
