Assam Textile Institute

Established in 1920 by Rai Bahadur Kanaklal Baruah, the Assam Textile Institute (ATI) is one of the oldest and most esteemed institutions for textile education in North-East India. Located in Ambari, Guwahati, ATI offers specialized diploma courses in Textile Technology, Garment Technology, and Fashion Technology, making it a unique hub for comprehensive textile education under one roof. ​

Academic Programs

ATI provides three full-time, three-year diploma programs:

• Diploma in Textile Technology – 30 seats

• Diploma in Garment Technology – 20 seats

• Diploma in Fashion Technology – 20 seats​

These courses are approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and are designed to equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for the textile industry. ​

Facilities

ATI boasts a range of facilities to support its academic programs:

• Laboratories: Spinning Lab, Weaving Workshop, Textile Chemistry Lab, and Textile Testing Lab.

• Library: A well-stocked library with over 10,000 books, journals, and digital resources.

• Hostels: Separate accommodations for boys and girls.

• IT Infrastructure: Modern computer labs and internet facilities.

• Additional Amenities: Cafeteria, auditorium, sports facilities, and medical support. ​

ATI has a dedicated Training and Placement Cell that:

Historical Significance

ATI's campus in Ambari, Guwahati, holds historical importance as it was the site of the Assam Movement, a significant movement against illegal immigration in the state during the 1980s. ​
