Barpeta Girls' College was established on September 7, 1978, with the vision of spreading higher education among women in the Barpeta district. It stands as the sole women's higher educational institution in the district, aiming to empower women through education. The college is affiliated with Gauhati University and recognized under sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956. It was assessed and accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2004 and 2016, receiving 'C' and 'B' grades respectively.

Infrastructure and Facilities

The college is situated on a 7-acre campus in the historically rich "Satra Nagari" of Barpeta. It offers a range of facilities to support academic and extracurricular activities:

The college follows the FYUGP (Four-Year Undergraduate Programme) introduced by Gauhati University from the academic session 2023-24, alongside the traditional TDC (Three-Year Degree Course) for existing students.
