The University of Cochin, established in 1971, was renamed Cochin University of Science and Technology(CUSAT), in February 1986 to acquire higher education with particular emphasis on postgraduate studies and research in technology, applied science, commerce, and business. The UGC and AICTE recognised CUSAT. The CUSAT courses consist of 53 postgraduate, 14 undergraduates, 9 M.Phil, and PhD courses. It offers specializations in all departments for research and higher studies. The University offers knowledge through its various training, instruction, research, development, and extension methods. CUSAT campus offers world-class conveniences for students to complement a better learning environment. Facilities like canteen, auditorium, hostel, laboratories, research centers, etc. are present on the campus. The library has a collection of 95000 reference books, back volumes of periodicals and doctoral postulations, licenses, 92 unfamiliar print diaries, 51 Indian Journals, CD-ROM, and so forth. A separate accommodation facility for male and female students is provided at the facility. There are 4 inns for boys, with 600 beds, and 5 inns for girls, with 700 beds.
