Darrang College

Darrang College, established in July 1945 by the people of Tezpur, is one of Assam's oldest and most respected educational institutions. Affiliated with Gauhati University, the college offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Arts, Science, and Commerce.

Accreditation

The college has been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with a B+ grade (CGPA 2.68) in its third cycle, valid from March 27, 2019, to March 28, 2024.

Undergraduate Courses:

Darrang College offers a diverse range of undergraduate programs:​

• Bachelor of Arts (BA): 19 specializations

• Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.): 8 specializations

• Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.): 4 specializations.

Postgraduate Courses:

• Master of Arts (MA): Assamese, Geography

• Master of Science (M.Sc.): Zoology, Botany​

Additional Programs:

• Certificate courses in Computer Applications, Conservation Ecology (in collaboration with WWF India), and Human Rights.

• Vocational courses in collaboration with institutions like IGNOU and ECIL.

Spanning over 15.5 acres, the college is situated in a serene suburban setting conducive to learning.

The college boasts a state-of-the-art library with over 5,000 sq.ft. of space, offering a vast collection of books, journals, and e-resources.

Laboratories:

Well-equipped labs for various disciplines, including Molecular Biology, Microbiology, and Bioinformatics, support practical learning. ​

Hostels:

Separate hostels for boys and girls provide comfortable accommodation with modern amenities. 

Sports & Recreation:

The college offers a playground for outdoor sports, a gymnasium, and indoor facilities for badminton and other activities.

Auditorium:

A spacious auditorium with a seating capacity of 1,000 hosts various cultural and academic events. ​

Extracurricular Activities

Women's Studies Cell:

Engages in research on women's issues and provides psychological counseling in collaboration with the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Mental Health Hospital.

Centre for Environmental Studies:

Conducts environmental education classes, seminars, and awareness programs

Centre for Conservation Studies:

A joint venture with WWF India, focusing on conservation education and research.

Vocational Study Centre:

Offers short-term courses in various trades, including electronics maintenance, computer hardware, and tea husbandry.
