NLU Kochi (NUALS)

The National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS), located in Kochi, Kerala, was established in 2005 by the state government of Kerala. As one of India’s premier National Law Universities, NUALS is dedicated exclusively to legal education and research. It is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Bar Council of India (BCI). Courses Offered and Admission

Integrated Programs
BA LLB (Hons) – 5 Years
NUALS offers a full-time five-year integrated Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws program that combines humanities subjects with core legal education.

Postgraduate Programs
LLM – 1 Year
The university offers a one-year LLM program with specializations in Constitutional and Administrative Law, and International Trade Law.

Admission Process

Admissions to the BA LLB (Hons) and LLM programs at NUALS are through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). Candidates must appear for CLAT and secure a rank within the cutoff to be eligible for counseling and seat allotment.

Eligibility Criteria Admissions

BA LLB (Hons)

• Must have passed 10+2 or equivalent with at least 45% marks (40% for SC/ST).

• Must appear and qualify in CLAT.

LLM

• Must hold a recognized LLB degree with at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ST).

• Admission is through CLAT PG.

PhD in Law

• Master's degree in Law with a minimum of 55% marks (50% for SC/ST).

• Candidates must qualify in an entrance test or hold UGC NET/JRF.

NUALS has an active placement cell that connects students with top law firms, corporations, and government bodies. Some of the leading recruiters include Khaitan & Co, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, Luthra & Luthra, and other prestigious law firms. Graduates also pursue judicial clerkships, higher studies, and public sector careers. The average package for top-performing students ranges from INR 6–10 LPA.
