Pandit Sundarlal Sharma (Open) University, PSSOU

Pandit Sundarlal Sharma (Open) University (PSSOU) is a state open university located in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. It was established by an act of the Chhattisgarh Legislature in 2005. The university is named in honor of Pandit Sundarlal Sharma, a freedom fighter and social reformer known for his contribution to education and social equity.

Mission and Vision:

PSSOU's mission is to provide accessible, quality higher education through open and distance learning. Its vision is to extend education to learners who cannot pursue regular studies, especially in remote and rural areas, empowering communities and promoting lifelong learning.

Academic Programs:

The university offers a wide array of programs across multiple disciplines including:

• Undergraduate Courses: BA, BCom, BSc, BBA, B.Ed.

• Postgraduate Courses: MA (various subjects), MCom, MSc, MBA, MSW

• Diplomas and Certificates: D.El.Ed., PG Diploma in Labour Law, Diploma in Yoga Science, Certificate in GST, and many others.

These programs are designed to meet the needs of learners from different backgrounds and professional interests.

Regional Centers:

PSSOU has established several regional centers to support students across the state. These centers are located in Bilaspur, Raipur, Ambikapur, Jagdalpur, Jashpur, Durg, and Kanker. They serve as access points for counseling, study materials, examinations, and academic support.

Accreditation and Recognition:

PSSOU is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). It has been accredited with an A++ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

Infrastructure:

Located on a sprawling 70-acre campus in Bilaspur, the university features administrative and academic blocks, a central library, computer labs, student hostels, staff quarters, a canteen, a bank, and dedicated helipads. The infrastructure supports a holistic academic experience for learners.

Admissions and Scholarships:

Admissions are conducted twice yearly—during the July/August and January/February cycles. Most admissions are merit-based, though some programs may require entrance tests. The university supports students through scholarships for SC/ST and minority groups under state and central government schemes.
