

Birjhora Kanya Mahavidyalaya (BKM), established in 1993, is a premier women's college located in Bongaigaon, Assam. Affiliated with Gauhati University and recognized by the UGC under sections 2(f) and 12(B), the college offers undergraduate programs in Arts, including both Honours and General courses. It also serves as a study center for Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU), providing various UG and PG courses through distance mode.
Academic Programs
BKM offers Higher Secondary (H.S.) and Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) programs under the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) and Gauhati University, respectively. The B.A. programs include Honours specializations in Assamese, English, Education, Political Science, Philosophy, Economics, History, and Bengali. Additionally, the college provides distance education courses such as B.B.A., B.M.C., and D.L.Ed. through KKHSOU.
Campus Facilities
The college boasts a well-furnished, partially automated library with over 6,000 textbooks and references, along with subscriptions to journals and newspapers. Students have access to more than 6,000 e-journals and nearly 2 lakh e-books through the N-LIST program. The campus is Wi-Fi enabled and features ICT-enabled classrooms, departmental laboratories, a canteen, sports facilities, an auditorium, and an on-campus medical facility.
Placement & Career Support
BKM has a dedicated placement cell that organizes workshops on employment enhancement techniques, personality development, and interview skills. According to the NIRF 2024 report, out of 170 undergraduate students, 12 secured placements with a median salary of ₹50,000 per annum, while 42 students opted for higher studies.
