Assam Agricultural University (AAU), established on April 1, 1969, in Jorhat, Assam, is the first institution of its kind in the entire North-Eastern region of India. It was founded with the mission to produce globally competitive human resources in the agricultural sector and to conduct research in both conventional and frontier areas for production optimization. The university emphasizes sustainability, equity, and overall food security at the household level.

Vision and Mission

  • Vision: To facilitate a technology-led agricultural renaissance, revitalizing and rejuvenating post-Green Revolution agriculture, ensuring both production and environmental sustainability, and targeting a minimum of 4% agricultural growth.

  • Mission: To fill the talent gap in agriculture and allied sectors, enabling the state to combat emerging challenges in agriculture and ensure productivity increases in various crops amidst shrinking land holdings, declining soil health, diminishing water resources, and increasing human population.

  • Hostels: Well-furnished accommodations for both boys and girls, with a preference for students from distant places on a first-come, first-served basis .​

  • Sports and Games: Facilities for both indoor and outdoor games to promote physical fitness and recreation.​

  • Wi-Fi Connectivity: Seamless internet access across the campus to support academic and research activities.​

Collaborations and Partnerships

AAU actively engages in collaborations with various institutions to advance agricultural research and education. For instance, in July 2023, AAU signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Girijananda Chowdhury University to engage in research collaboration in the area of crop disease detection and diagnosis using AI-based technologies .​
