JB college of Jorhat

Established on August 19, 1930, Jagannath Barooah College is one of the oldest and most esteemed institutions of higher education in Assam. Located in Jorhat, the college was founded by eminent personalities like Prof. Krishna Kanta Handique and others. It is affiliated with Dibrugarh University and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Over the years, JB College has evolved into a hub of academic excellence, offering a wide array of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. In 2011, the college was reaccredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with an 'A' grade, reflecting its commitment to quality education.

Admissions to undergraduate programs are based on the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), while postgraduate admissions are conducted through the Jagannath Barooah College Post Graduate Entrance Test (JBCPGET).

Campus & Facilities

JB College boasts a sprawling campus equipped with modern amenities to facilitate holistic development:

• Library: The KK Handique Library houses over 49,000 books, national and international journals, and subscribes to 15 daily newspapers. It also offers online public access catalog (OPAC) and e-journal facilities.

• Hostels: Limited hostel facilities are available for both boys and girls, with 62 and 66 seats respectively. Admissions are based on merit.

• Sports & Gym: The college features an indoor stadium, a modern gymnasium, and various sports facilities to promote physical well-being.

• Laboratories: Well-equipped laboratories for all science subjects, including a sophisticated language laboratory for the Department of Functional English.

• Auditorium & Cafeteria: A spacious auditorium hosts academic and cultural events, while the cafeteria provides nutritious food at subsidized rates.

• Medical Facilities: A permanent doctor is available to provide medical services to students and staff. 

Achievements & Recognition

• In 2016, JB College was selected for the Star College Scheme by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, to enhance undergraduate science education

• The college was conferred autonomous status by the UGC in 2016, allowing greater academic flexibility.
