Assam University

Assam University, established in 1994 under the Assam (Central) University Act, 1989, is a central public university located in Dargakona, approximately 20 km from Silchar, Assam. The university's main campus spans 600 acres amidst the scenic Barak Valley, offering a serene environment conducive to academic pursuits.

Academic Structure

The university comprises 16 schools encompassing 42 departments, offering a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs. Some of the prominent schools include:​

Campus Facilities

Assam University's main campus is equipped with modern infrastructure to support academic and extracurricular activities:​

• Central Library: Houses over 127,000 books and subscriptions to more than 1,100 journals, both in print and online. It provides access to over 10,000 electronic resources through platforms like e-Shodh Sindhu, DELNET, and DELCON. The library is fully Wi-Fi enabled and includes reading rooms and an internet access lab.

• Hostels: The university offers nine hostels—four for boys and five for girls—equipped with basic amenities and mess facilities.

• Sports Complex: Facilities include courts for badminton, basketball, volleyball, kabaddi, and a cricket-cum-football field. The university is a member of the Inter-University Sports Board of India and hosts annual sports events.

• Healthcare: A health center provides outpatient services, pathological tests, X-rays, minor operations, and ECG. An ambulance is available round-the-clock, and students are covered by medical insurance to a certain extent.

• Transportation: The university operates bus services connecting the campus to various locations, including Silchar and Hailakandi.

• Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programs: Admissions are conducted through exams like CUET, JEE-MAINS, CAT, and CLAT.
