Darbhanga Medical College

Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), established in 1946, is one of Bihar's oldest and most esteemed medical institutions. Located in Darbhanga, it offers comprehensive medical education and healthcare services, catering to the needs of the Mithilanchal region and beyond. 

History

The inception of DMCH traces back to the efforts of King Rameshwar Singh of the Khandavala Dynasty. In 1925, during a visit by the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII), the idea of establishing a medical college in Bihar was proposed. The Maharaja donated 300 acres of land and ₹6 lakh to set up the institution. Initially located near Lohia Chowk, the college was officially inaugurated on January 10, 1946, by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India.

Academic Programs

DMCH offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate medical courses:

• MBBS: 120 seats per year; 4.5 years + 1-year internship. Admission through NEET.

• MD/MS: Various specialties; 3 years duration.

• B.Sc. Nursing: Undergraduate program in nursing.

• Diploma Courses: In various medical disciplines.
