Dispur Law College, situated in the heart of Guwahati, Assam, was established in 1993 with the mission to impart quality legal education. The college commenced its operations in February 1994 at Gopal Boro Government H.S. School, Dispur. With the generous donation of land adjacent to the historic Assam Secretariat Building by Smti. Madhuri Das and Sri Dalim Chandra Pathak, the college constructed its own building. The foundation stone was laid by the then Chief Minister of Assam, Late Hiteswar Saikia, on March 9, 1995. Since then, the college has been functioning from its own premises.

Academic Programs

Dispur Law College offers two undergraduate law programs:​

  • 5-Year B.A. LL.B. (Honours): An integrated course combining arts and law, designed for students after completing their Higher Secondary (10+2) education.​

  • 3-Year LL.B.: A traditional law degree program for graduates from any discipline.​

Both programs are affiliated with Gauhati University and approved by the Bar Council of India (BCI). Admissions are based on merit and an entrance examination conducted by the college.

Facilities

Dispur Law College is equipped with modern facilities to support the academic and extracurricular development of its students:​

  • Library: A well-stocked library with over 8,600 books, journals, and e-resources like Manupatra and AIR Online, providing comprehensive legal materials.

  • Computer Lab: Equipped with 23 PCs, broadband internet, and legal databases such as Legal-Eagle and Manupatra for research and case law analysis.

  • Moot Court: A dedicated moot court hall for students to practice and enhance their advocacy skills.​

  • Classrooms: Spacious, well-furnished classrooms with modern teaching aids like projectors and microphones to facilitate interactive learning.​

  • Wi-Fi & Auditorium: Campus-wide Wi-Fi connectivity and an auditorium for seminars, workshops, and cultural events.​

  • Health Center: A first-aid facility to address medical emergencies on campus. 

Leadership

Dr. Gargi Dutta Paul serves as the Principal of Dispur Law College. She joined the institution in 2000 as an Assistant Professor and has held various positions, including Vice-Principal, before assuming the role of Principal in 2019. Dr. Paul holds an LL.M. degree from Gauhati University and was awarded a Ph.D. in 2014 for her research on 'Elimination of Hunger and Malnutrition.' She is actively involved in academic and capacity-building programs. ​
